PAY EQUITY - THE GENDER GAP: Past, Present and Future
Elizabeth Millar was the driving force behind the long and arduous campaign to reduce wage discrimination in the Federal Public Service and other jurisdictions. For nearly 20 years she worked tirelessly and uncompromisingly to achieve full equality for women in the workplace and full respect for the legal rights of women. She worked, as a member of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, from the inception to the final pay equity settlement of \\$3.6 billion. Ms Millar received degrees from Memorial University and Carleton University. She was awarded the YWCA Women of Distinction award in May 2000, in the Business and Professions category. A widely recognized expert in the field of pay equity, Ms Millar has worked with unions, labour organizations and provincial governments to promote an understanding of pay equity principles and practices.

2.0 RECAP OF PAST EVENTS
2.1 NETWORKING EVENT IN JANUARY 2001
On Thursday, January 18, 2001 nearly 200 women and men attended the Joint Networking Event at the Canadian Museum of Nature organized by WISE, the Wired Woman Society, DigitalEve and CWC (Canadian Women in Communications). Our guest speaker was Carol Stephenson, President and CEO of Lucent Technologies Canada. Carol gave a magnificent talk offering her ideas of how to succeed in the workplace. Carol's presentation was video-recorded by Epress and can be viewed by clicking on the link http://www.epress.ca/vid4.asp?vod=wom-jan19-1 or going to their website (www.epress.ca) and searching for Carol Stephenson. On Epress's website, you'll also find an interview by Heidi Jane with Carol Stephenson that was taped a few days before the Networking Event. Overall, the event was quite successful, and the organisers from the different women's groups have agreed to organize another event together in the future.
2.2 WISE OTTAWA'S PRESIDENT INTERVIEWED ON EPRESS.CA
Also on Epress, WISE Ottawa's president, Colleen Ennett, was interviewed by Heidi Jane to promote WISE and discuss other women's issues. Please click here http://www.epress.ca/vid4.asp?vod=wow-feb12-1 to view the video clip or search their website (www.epress.ca) for Colleen Ennett.
