Dr. Frize will speak about the "Women Into Engineering project" that was
discussed at the MacKay-Lassonde Memorial Forum held on October 19, 2001.
The Women Into Engineering project's mandate is to develop and implement
strategies to improve the recruitment, advising and teaching of women
in faculties of engineering by increasing the universities' participation
in those activities. This is a joint project with the Professional Engineers
Ontario (PEO), the Ontario Women's Directorate and the NSERC/Nortel WISE
Chair for Ontario.
The ultimate objective is to modify the face of engineering to make it
more attractive to everyone -- women, men, minorities, etc.
All are welcome!!!

4. Pathmakers is Looking for Volunteers!
The Pathmakers program was designed to encourage young people, especially
young women, to consider a career in technology, science, engineering,or
other occupations considered non-traditional for women. The tremendous
gender imbalance of students studying in these fields at universities and
colleges indicate that many female students are unaware of the wide range of
careers available to them.
Pathmakers visit elementary and secondary schools in the Ottawa area.
They are females who are presently studying or working in a non-traditional
field. They act as role models to encourage young people to stay in
school,to maintain studies in science, technology or mathematics, and to
explore career choices in occupations where there are great job
opportunities.
